Guidelines for Admission into the Rank and Status of Accredited Commercial Diplomat

Established with statutory rights and plenipotentiary powers as the first ever professional standard and symbol of competency, integrity, proficiency, professionalism, and the highest accreditation status for high-performing, highly-skilled, highly-competent and highly-influential commercial diplomats.

Requirements

Qualifying Requirements

  • Successful completion of the ‘final’ MQCE Essential Examinations for Accreditation, which cover all the essentially required approved vocational training-related comprehensive learning modules in the modular-courses that prospective practitioner-candidates should have successfully completed in the (MQCP-QPA and MQCP-QCD) MQCP Preparation Programme,
  • Be a Qualified Certified Diplomat, and or
  • By recommendation ad personam by the Presidium

Further Requirements

In order to be admitted to the rank and status of Accredited Commercial Diplomatist, the prospective practitioner-candidate shall:

  • Currently be in a related-relevant sector-specific employment (senior-level executive/management position or equivalent), for an aggregate of at least ten years, with proven significant relevant practical experience (experience may have been gained in any organization in the public-private sector, civil, public-private and foreign commercial diplomatic service, multinational corporation, intergovernmental organization, ministry of trade and investment, commerce and industry, agriculture and natural resources, or diplomatic institution, and can be combined with study);
  • submit an acceptable portfolio of proven significant related-relevant hands-on professional experience;
  • submit 2 acceptable official letters (of recommendation and reference);
  • be willing, and able to advocate, and safeguard the integrity of the commercial diplomatic profession, and the global professional body; and
  • be willing, and able to actively support the mission, and objectives of the professional body.

Accreditation of commercial diplomats demonstrates proven impeccable integrity-inspired judgments, integrity-focused decision-making ability, integrity-driven representatory policy-making capability, and professionalism. It also shows serious commitment to commercial diplomatic career and responsible commercial diplomatic service.

Accreditation Status 

  • This provides highly-qualified commercial diplomats with recognition of personal and professional achievements in attaining and maintaining high standards of advanced skills-specific knowledge and specialism-based expertise.

Role of the Presidium

  • The appointment/admission to the rank and status of Accredited Commercial Diplomat (Chartered Diplomat) is by recommendation of the Court Assembly for Accreditation, before the final approval by the Presidium,
  • Accreditation is renewable annually

Suitability Requirements and Criteria

Accreditation for commercial diplomats is open to highly skilled and experienced individuals who have significantly contributed to the commercial diplomatic field.

  • Candidates must demonstrate leadership qualities, integrity, and possess strong analytical and commercial-judicial diplomatic skills.
  • They should be seasoned executives, respected leaders, and have practical experience in the sector, including policy design and institution building.

Furthermore, aspiring practitioner-candidates must:

  • be highly respected within the profession, known for fostering talent, and possess a robust background in academia, government, or relevant policy sectors.
  • be senior officials or professors with significant contributions to academia and public/private/foreign commercial diplomatic service.
  • have experience co-founding commercial diplomacy platforms, leading reforms as a Minister, or holding pivotal board roles in commercial-judicial diplomacy.
  • have a relevant PhD and commitment to the field's development are desirable.
  • demonstrate integrity, influence cross-border cooperation and partnerships, and possess unique expertise, having served in senior diplomatic roles.
  • be outstanding practitioners dedicated to advancing responsible commercial diplomacy, committed to bringing honour, dignity, and respect to commercial diplomacy globally, with distinction and excellence.

As an Ambassador, Senior Executive, Consul-General, Principal Officer for Commercial Diplomatic Service, Minister Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Minister or Secretary of State, or an experienced Diplomat, this text describes the qualifications and expertise of a senior commercial diplomat. Such a diplomat must:

  • possesses a deep understanding of commercial diplomacy, including its role in government and international trade policy, and specializes in areas like trade policy analysis, cross-border cooperation, international negotiations, trade promotion, dispute resolution, and advocating responsible commercial diplomacy.

Better Impactful Commercial Diplomat

Modern commercial diplomacy is a rapidly evolving global force for prosperity, and the ACCD-CDRA may accredit highly influential commercial diplomats. Therefore, commercial diplomats need specific skills, knowledge, and strategies to effectively lead trade and investment ministries or organizations. This includes fostering international collaboration on commercial diplomatic issues, increasing trade and investment, guiding various entities towards growth through commercial diplomacy, leading global commercial diplomatic organizations, understanding governmental commercial diplomatic affairs, and influencing international policymakers.

Therefore, this individual must be an accomplished learned practitioner, and:

  • have extensive experience in commercial diplomacy, having led initiatives to enhance talent development and modernize practices within government ministries.
  • possess expertise in international trade, investment, and arbitration, and a deep understanding of the structure and objectives of commercial diplomacy.
  • view the ACCD-CDRA as a key force for standardizing and regulating the profession, and for protecting commercial diplomats.
  • whose background includes roles in intergovernmental organizations and a master's degree in a relevant field.
  • have contributed to reports on advancing commercial diplomatic services and supported career development for commercial diplomats.

*The Presidium will personally select and authorize qualified candidates, who will then be informed of their selection and accreditation.

Areas of specialism-based expertise are expected to span across related-relevant sectors and economies, and include, but not limited to:

  • trade, investment and commerce-related policy analysis,
  • facilitation of mutually beneficial cross-border cooperation and sustainable strategic collaborative partnership,
  • negotiation of international trade, investment and commerce-related policies and agreements or treaties,
  • promotion of goods and services between economies or multinational corporations,
  • the resolution, settlement and management of disputes in international trade, investment and commerce, through effective commercial-judicial diplomatic engagements, arbitration, mediation, and or conciliation,
  • advocating responsible commercial diplomacy,
  • policy, regulation, and standardization.
